"Every sound you make travels far and wide. When you feel good making music that feeling goes on for ever" |
||
| the world percussion experience | ||||
| What is it? | A hands-on globe trotting experience giving groups of people a chance to play a variety of handmade musical instruments from cultures around the world. | |
| The Experience can be in the form of an interactive show, workshop or residency (for producing music for plays etc). | ||
| An average show involving a class of 30 children will last about an hour. | ||
| What are the benefits of the show? | Hearing and seeing unusual instruments being played inspires and feeds the imagination - in terms of playing and making instruments. | |
| It develops awareness of and hopefully a respect for different cultures around the world. | ||
| It is fun, playful learning that empowers people to overcome inhibitions and to try something new in-front of others in a non threatening way. | ||
| Playing unusual instruments to which there is no written music lets us know we don't have to read music to play a tune or beat out a rhythm. | ||
| What kinds of instruments are there in the show? | There are didgeridoos from Australia, Gongs from Cambodian hill-tribe people, a shakuhachi from Japan, singing bowls from Nepal and Tibet, a talking drum from Ghana and many, many more interesting names and sounds of instruments from every continent in the world! | |
| Is it simply about music? | No! Participants will hear creation stories and travel stories as well as information on primitive and scientific theories of sound and its importance to all things. | |
| Its about geography too, as we will find out where all these places are on the planet. | ||
| Who is it aimed at? | Schools and private groups of all ages - I have even been in to retirement homes to deliver this workshop! | |
| How much does it cost? | There is a sliding scale, depending on whether the group is large, small, a community group, a school or a corporation. However, as a guide, the price for a school day is £180 - which includes £15 donation to Survival International | |
| How do I make a booking? | Call Chris on 01395 568349 or email chris@wholeland.org.uk to discuss ideas and/or check availability. You will then be sent a booking form with the terms and conditions. The booking form is returned, usually with a deposit. Booking done! | |
