bushcraft
.
In recent years Bushcraft, (including Survival Skills, Wilderness and Primitive living) have received much publicity and are once again becoming very interesting to general public. Is this because the average person spends so much time indoors, away from Nature and the living world that supports us? I don't know, but I do know that there are a lot of people who now want to relearn timeless and basic skills like making fire by friction, identifying wild food and medicinal plants, making string from plant fibres, the list could go on and and on.

Wholeland has been set up with the express wish of sharing some of the basic skills of Bushcraft with children and grown-ups alike because of the great benefits offered to the whole planetary ecosystem.

What are the potential benefits of learning Bushcraft? - deep understanding of the interrelation and interdependence of all things in the web of life.  For  humankind to survive we need the plants and animals to survive, which need the sun and water and shelter,  like we do,  to survive, the list of interconnection goes on to infinity.
- increased self-esteem, self-reliance. A basic deep down feeling that I am Ok and I know how to survive if the worst came to the worst.
- knowing how to live simply and maybe appreciating the simple things like a fire you have just brought to life with a bow drill, a spoon and bowl you have just carved, the first flush of hawthorne leaves soon to be eaten in a salad, the sight of a deer feeding peacefully just up wind from your shelter in the woods...
- increased awareness of other cultures to whom survival and primitive living is the norm
- respecting the needs of other lifeforms and maybe taking only what we need.
- increased manual dexterity, trust,  wonder, teamwork, overcoming fears, knowledge of native flora and fauna, improved listening skills, knowing how to merge with nature and thus watch wildlife, enjoying silence and solitude, increased attention span, increased creativity and intuition. Again the list is endless.
